Onu Asu Amasu




Across Igboland, rural-to-urban migration is changing the composition of entire communities. Local economies are evolving as traditional occupations and lifestyles yield to more “modern” forms of work. ‘Ọ́rụ́ Bèkéè’ (western work culture) coupled with globalization has had particularly profound impacts on Amasu, an Aro fishing community in what is now Abia State. Some time back, we explored the old fishing trails with a local ex-fisherman and learned the secrets of this fading craft.
